Boulder/Longmont

Hawthorn Suites - Longmont (northeast suburb of Boulder), was found on Biz-stay.com's Boulder Area Suite Hotels page. It was reviewed in July 2006. Our 2-bedroom/2-bath suite with full kitchen and fireplace was booked online at a nightly rate of $149 (weekend). Hawthorn Suites - Longmont met expectations for an upscale extended stay hotel chain.
  • Decor: Room was nicely decorated with typical hotel decor. The hotel layout is like an apartment complex. Rating of 4 (on scale of 1 to 5).
  • Lighting: Lots of lights, but they were all fairly dim. Rating of 3.
  • Comfort: Very roomy suite, with large bathrooms. Beds were firm, and not as high quality as others, but still reasonably comfortable. Rating of 4.
  • Upkeep: Rooms were very clean and grounds were nicely landscaped.
    Rating of 5.
  • Service: Check-in & out went smoothly. But staff did not interact much with guests. For example, we were not informed of the amenities or food service available. Rating of 3.
  • Breakfast: Not a very large selection, but items were kept stocked and the eating area was spacious. Rating of 4.
  • Other: Overall a nice hotel, but no one really went out of their way to make sure our stay was pleasant. The suite was actually two rooms. The largest was like a studio suite, with kitchen, living area, king size bed and large bathroom. The adjoining bedroom had 2 double beds and another large bathroom.

Colorado Springs

AmeriSuites (now Hyatt Place) - Colorado Springs, near Garden of the Gods, was found on Biz-stay.com's Colorado Springs Suite Hotels page. It was reviewed in August 2005. Our suite with two double beds and a sofabed was booked online at a nightly rate of $108.75 (midweek). AmeriSuites Colorado Springs exceeded expectations for a moderate suite hotel chain.
  • Decor: The hotel was beautifully decorated. Rating of 5 (on scale of 1 to 5).
  • Lighting: Nicely lit in our room and throughout the hotel. Rating of 5.
  • Comfort: There wasn't anything exceptional about the room, but it was comfortable. There were 2 double beds separated from a sofa bed and kitchenette by a partial wall. The bathroom was small and simple. The sink was out in the bedroom and the bathtub & toilet were behind a door. This was convenient for getting ready in the morning. Rating of 4.
  • Upkeep: Hotel and suite were extremely clean and well maintained.
    Rating of 5.
  • Service: The service was outstanding. The desk clerk did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant one. Rating of 5.

Eagle

Suburban Hotel (now Silverleaf Suites) in Eagle (west of Vail) was reviewed in August 2004. Our studio with 2 double beds was booked through Biz-stay.com's Vail - Beaver Creek - Eagle page at a rate of $69.99. (This is actually a low rate for such an expensive area.) Suburban Lodge is an extended stay hotel, so travelers get significant discounts for longer stays. For example, the rate for a stay of 7 days was only $42.28/night. This particular Suburban Lodge met expectations for a budget chain:

  • Decor: Outdated, but well-coordinated. Rating of 3 (on scale of 1 to 5).
  • Lighting: Lighting was dim in room and hallways. Rating of 2.
  • Comfort: Beds were firm, pillows flat. Blankets and sheets seemed old and worn. Climate control was poor. Rating of 2.
  • Upkeep: First given a room with a musty, mildewed smell. Were given a new room, but it wasn't much better. At least, the room and halls looked clean. Hinge was broken on kitchen cabinet. Cracked bathroom faucet. Rating of 2.
  • Service: Very friendly. Rating of 4.
  • Breakfast: None
  • Other: Kitchenette was minimally equipped. Very little counter space. Small 19" TV.
