As the economy continues to recover from the recent recession, a growing number of companies will be spending more on business travel in 2011 than they did last year, reports USA Today.
According to a survey conducted by travel expense consulting firm GetThere, 61 percent of corporate travel managers expect their travel budgets to grow between 1 and 10 percent relative to the year before. This represents a significant increase over that statistic from last year's survey, which found that only one-third of managers planned to increase their budgets.
"They do see they have to travel more to grow their business," says Suzanne Neufang, general manager of GetThere.
Because their recovery is far from assured, however, these companies are seeking to make the most of their spending.
"They're looking to enable travel but still have savings," said Neufang.
One way that many companies are choosing to save money is by having their employees stay in extended stay hotels during long business trips, as these facilities offer comfortable accommodations as well as discounts relative to standard hotels.
