Hyatt is expanding its extended-stay options with the purchase of 16 Hotel Sierra properties from LodgeWorks. This will represent a 42% increase in the number of Summerfield Suites hotels.
"This is a significant expansion of our presence in the United States and enhances our extended stay representation," said Mark S. Hoplamazian, president and CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corp, in a press release. "We know that for Hyatt Summerfield Suites to become the preferred brand among extended stay guests, we must increase the number of markets we serve."
The new Summerfield Suites are in Bellevue WA, Redmond WA, Branchburg NJ, Parsippany NJ, Charlotte City Center NC, Morrisville NC, Dulles/Sterling VA, Fishkill NY, Rancho Cordova CA, Richmond VA, San Jose CA, San Ramon CA, Santa Clara CA, Shelton CT, King of Prussia PA (under construction), and Merrifield VA (under construction).
Among these, the new markets served by Hyatt extended-stay will be Seattle WA, Richmond VA, Raleigh-Durham NC, Fairfield County CT, Poughkeepsie/Fishkill NY, San Jose CA, and Sacramento CA.
Hotel Sierra and Hyatt Summerfield Suites are both upscale chains. They offer such amenities as daily housekeeping and free breakfast buffets. They are also 100% smoke-free. The new hotels coming into the Hyatt portfolio average four years old with many open less than two years.
The addition of the new hotels to Hyatt's Gold Passport program will enable Summerfield Suites to compete more effectively with the leaders in the Upscale Extended-Stay Hotel segment: Marriott's Residence Inn, Hilton's Homewood Suites and InterContinental's Staybridge Suites.
The transition of the new hotels is expected to begin in late 2011.
