Rodeo, Fine Arts Await in Colorado Springs

4 Jun 2010

The Wild West seems to have an eternal grip on the minds of Americans. One need look no further than the hundreds, if not thousands, of Western movies that have been produced to see that there is something about the cowboy lifestyle that has resonated profoundly with the American population. While it may not be possible nowadays to go West and stake a gold claim or get a letter from the Pony Express, it is possible to do the next best thing, go to a rodeo. And one of the best rodeos in the entire country will be taking place this July in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

On July 14, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo will ride into the Norris-Penrose Event center, marking the 70th time that Colorado Springs has hosted the exciting event. The rodeo takes its name from the days of the Colorado Gold Rush, when enthusiastic miners used, "Pikes Peak or Bust," as their motto.

The rodeo will feature many traditional events like bareback bronc riding, which sees the competitor mount a bucking bronco with nothing more than a leather rigging to hold on to. Another iconic event of the rodeo is steer wrestling, where a rider chases down a steer on horseback, grabs hold of its head and wrestles the beast to the ground. The event ends on July 17.

There are also number of more refined things to do in Colorado Springs if one is so inclined. The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center always has wonderful works of arts on display, but this July it will have two special exhibits. Beginning on July 10, the Center will display the hauntingly beautiful religious and spiritual bronze works of well-known American sculptor Gib Singleton. Also beginning on July 10 will be an exhibit featuring the Abstract Expressionist paintings of American-Indian artist Earl Biss.

Unfortunately not every trip to Colorado Springs can be for pleasure, but still the area is a great place to conduct business. The city was ranked 10th on Forbes' list of "Best Places for Business and Careers." Colorado Springs also received the Gold Service Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine.

There are so many things to do in the area that it makes sense for travelers to look into booking a suite at one of the many Colorado Springs extended stay hotels. These places combine the services of a hotel with the comfort of a furnished apartment.

For travelers who want to stay in such a hotel and also save a bit of money, the Crossland Economy Studios - Airport in Colorado Springs is an excellent choice. The hotel's suites are equipped with refrigerator, microwave and stove top. Dining and cooking utensil are also provided, which is good news for the budget conscious traveler, as cooking one's own meals is a great way to save money. The suites also have a spacious work area, and wireless internet is available for a nominal, one-time fee. But perhaps the most attractive thing about this particular extended stay hotel is its rates. Nightly rates for a week-long stay in July run as low as $31.99 per night.

Travelers who want to take a long trip to the area and do it style should consider the Residence Inn Colorado Springs North at Interquest. For business travelers, this particular extended stay hotel has a number of attractive amenities.
