Ohio State Fair is a Must for Columbus Visitors

1 Jul 2010

There are many reasons to visit Columbus, Ohio, during the summer months. Both the Columbus Clippers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, and the Columbus Crew, a Major League Soccer team, are in action and the city's zoo and aquarium are wonderful places to visit. But travelers to Columbus this July and August should make a point to spend at least one day at the Ohio State Fair.

The fair opens up on July 28 this year and runs through August 8. During that span it will offer attendees all the excitement of a traditional fair. There will carnival games to test one's skill, corn dogs and cotton candy to fill one's belly and rides to excite one's senses.

The Ohio State Fair offers more than just food and games, however. Each year the fair attracts top-notch musical guests to wow audiences.

On the evening of July 31, rockers Weezer will blow audiences away with their music, which is sure to entertain all fans of rock and roll. Then on August 4, 1980s musical mainstay Devo will whip audiences into a frenzy with their bizarre, yet interesting, songs.

Unfortunately, not everyone can travel to Columbus for pleasure; some must visit the city on business. While Columbus is often overshadowed in its own state by Cleveland and Cincinnati, it is actually the largest city in Ohio and the 15th largest in the country. As such an important city, it offers business travelers excellent facilities to ensure their work gets done. The Port Columbus International Airport is located just 10 minutes away from downtown and makes it easy for business travelers from all over the world to get to the city.

With all of the fun events and accommodating business facilities, it might make sense for both business and leisure travelers alike to think about booking extended stay lodging in Columbus.

One excellent place to stay is the Staybridge Suites Columbus Airport. This facility offers guests a top-notch health and fitness center that features a beautiful pool. In addition, it has great business services. Another great feature of this hotel is its location, which, as the name implies, is right next to the airport. Rates at the Staybridge Suites Columbus Airport are very good as well, starting at just $89 per night for a weeklong stay at the end of July.

Another superb place is ExecuStay by Marriott. There are four of these extended stay furnished apartment complexes in Columbus, giving travelers a great deal of choice when choosing a location.

Gary Smith, the franchise owner of all ExecuStay by Marriott's Ohio locations, feels that there are a lot of reasons for travelers to stay in one of his corporate housing facilities.

He says that ExecuStay by Marriot "gives you a home versus a temporary hotel room." This comfortable and welcoming atmosphere is very important for business travelers, especially those who spend 84 days on a business trip, which is the typical length of a stay at Ohio ExecuStay locations, according to Smith.

When asked to cite the favorite amenities among guests, Smith said, "everybody likes the wireless internet," which is complimentary. In addition, Smith notes that the flat-screen TVs in each room and the fitness and business centers are also popular among visitors.

Another reason why the ExecuStay locations are so popular among guests is that they welcome pets. Business travelers won't have to worry about putting Rover in a kennel when they stay at an ExecuStay because most of the facilities cater to animals, says Smith.

With all of these services, to say nothing of the impeccable apartments and helpful staff, the ExecuStay by Marriot's Columbus locations are remarkably inexpensive, with rates starting at just $75 per night for a month-long stay.

With so many first-class lodging options, it may make sense for leisure and business travelers alike to take a nice, long trip to Columbus.
