There are many great extended stay offerings in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, that make for great accommodations for those planning a longer visit to the area best known for being home to the University of Illinois, and soon there will be another option.
The Candlewood Suites - Champaign-Urbana University Area is scheduled to open Monday, December 6, and everyone at the hotel is ready to get the property off to a good start, according to general manager Laura Rittenhouse.
Rittenhouse said that the extended stay hotel recently received its certificate of occupancy and that the run-up to the opening this coming Monday has been "very exciting," adding that "everyday there is a new milestone."
One of the reasons why guests will like the the Candlewood Suites - Champaign-Urbana University Area is because of its "great location" that is "very convenient" to the major business attractions in the area.
Indeed, the property is just two miles from the University of Illinois and four miles away from a major hospital, making it a great choice for visiting professors, doctors and nurses, according to Rittenhouse.
The Candlewood Suites' great location isn't the only thing that will endear it to guests. According to Rittenhouse, the property has free 24-hour laundry service, a 24-hour fitness center and each suite has a fully equipped kitchen. This final amenity provides guests with a great way to save money during their extended stay, as constantly getting meals from restaurants can prove expensive.
In addition to these fine amenities, the property offers a rather unique service, a DVD/CD lending library. Each suite is equipped with a DVD player and guests are allowed to borrow movies from the library at no charge, and this is just one of the "exciting features that the hotel offers," says Rittenhouse.
In order to help attract people to the Candlewood Suites - Champaign-Urbana University Area during the its opening months, the property is offering some deals on its suites, some of which can be 525 square-feet. During the first three months of the hotel's operation, those who book a month-long stay will only pay $49 per night, a tremendously low price compared to rates offered by other hotels in the area.
While Rittenhouse points out that the property will be a great place to stay for business travelers, who she hopes will eventually make up about 75 percent of her guests, the Champaign area is also a great place for those on a longer vacation.
One great thing for travelers to the area to do, especially if they visit during the winter, is to see the University of Illinois' men's basketball team. The Fighting Illini have a proud program that produced one of the best players in the NBA, Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams.
So far this year, Illinois is 6-1 and will be playing some tough teams come January when their Big Ten conference schedule kicks into high gear. Those who are visiting during that month may want to see Illinois play sixth-ranked Michigan State on January 18 and Ohio State, currently ranked second, on January 22.
Those looking for something a bit more educational during their extended trip to the Champaign area will surely want to stop by the Octave Chanute Aerospace Museum.
This 177,000 square-foot museum has been in operation for 77 years and is the largest aerospace museum in Illinois, giving visitors a tremendous opportunity to see aircraft from various eras.
With even more extended stay options in the area, visitors will truly want to take a nice long trip to Champaign.
