The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, a new 206-bed facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan, recently opened its doors, providing the city with a facility dedicated to both the comfort and care of children. Named after the wife of a major donor, the hospital is expected to draw patients from around the state, and families with children staying at the facility may wish to find an extended stay hotel in Grand Rapids.
One option for families looking for a place to stay is the Gatehouse Suites Grand Rapids. Located at 2710 East Beltline Avenue SE, this former Residence Inn is only around a 15-minute drive away from the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.
According to Katie Miller, the director of sales at the Gatehouse Suites Grand Rapids, approximately 70 percent of the guests who stay at the hotel come to Grand Rapids on business. Local companies include General Motors, Amway, Siemens, Steelcase and Spectrum Health, which operates the new hospital.
Miller says that the size of the rooms is one of the best features of the Gatehouse Suites, as all guestrooms are approximately 50 percent larger than those at standard non-extended stay hotels.
She also states that one of the advantages of the Gatehouse Suites is "the fact that there is a full kitchen in all of our rooms," allowing guests to "cook for themselves." All rooms also include free wireless high-speed internet access and a luxury bedding package.
Other amenities offered by the hotel include an outdoor pool and whirlpool and an indoor fitness center. Additionally, the hotel serves guests a full breakfast every day and a free light dinner every night from Monday through Thursday.
"We get to know our guests," said Miller, adding that the creation of a "family atmosphere" by the hotel's staff helps it to feel like a "home away from home" for guests.
In addition to the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, nearby attractions include Van Andel Arena, Woodland Mall, John Ball Park Zoo, the Grand Rapids Art Museum and Millennium Park. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is approximately five miles from the hotel, and Lake Michigan is approximately a 30-minute drive away.
A one-week stay in February at the Gatehouse Suites Grand Rapids starts from $109 per night for a studio suite and $139 per night for a two-bedroom or penthouse suite.
