Construction Begins on New Home2 Suites Near Salt Lake City

2 Feb 2011

Business travelers have many options when they are looking for extended stay hotels in Salt Lake City, and now construction has begun on a new hotel near an important regional office park, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

Construction crews held the official groundbreaking recently for the new Home2 Suites, a mid-priced extended stay hotel operated by Hilton Worldwide. The hotel will be located in the Lake Park business park, which includes offices for major corporations like Discover Financial Services, Verizon and Spillman Technologies. The hotel is set to be finished by November of this year and will begin welcoming guests shortly thereafter.

"It's an area that has lacked a hospitality component for some time, so it's a real benefit for the business park," said Brent Garlick, the redevelopment administrator for West Valley City, the Salt Lake suburb that contains the new complex. "Having a hotel there could accommodate a lot of visitors who come in and out of the park for training or other business."

The hotel offers unique advantages to its future customers. While West Valley City reportedly has just over 10 hotels, none of them are located near the Lake Park business complex.

Home2 is a new line of extended stay hotels from Hilton, with the first hotel bearing the brand name to open in North Carolina later this month. The hotel is designed to appeal to travelers with modern tastes by utilizing contemporary interior design.

"Home2 Suites is the perfect mix of modernism and comfort for extended stay guests," Bill Duncan, global head of Home2 for Hilton, told the source.

Every studio and one-bedroom suite at the upcoming extended stay hotel will include a 42-inch flat panel TV, a Serta Suite Dreams bed, a refrigerator with a freezer, a microwave/convection oven, a dishwasher, a sleeper sofa and an ergonomic desk chair.

Other amenities that will be in the suites include a customizable working wall for business travelers, wireless high-speed internet access, an alarm clock with a built-in iPod port and mp3 jack and an in-room recycling service.

The new hotel's lobby, called the Oasis, is billed as a functional common space where business and leisure travelers alike will be able to mingle. Guests will also be able to take advantage of the hotel's fitness center, pool, laundry facilities and outdoor walking trail.
