Extended Stay One-Bedroom Suite Rates

In April 2005, Biz-stay.com researchers conducted an extensive survey comparing the lowest available weekly discount rates in June at 9 leading extended stay hotel chains. The chains ranged from moderate (Candlewood) to upscale (Residence Inn). For extended stay chain abbreviations used in the rate matrix below, please refer to the following key:

CW = Candlewood Suites (average rate: $90.62)

TP = TownePlace Suites by Marriott (average rate: $104.60)

SB = Staybridge Suites (average rate: $122.41)

HW = Homewood Suites by Hilton (average rate: $118.82)

RI = Residence Inn by Marriott (average rate: $131.94)

To permit a meaningful price comparison, we recorded the best available daily rates (based on a weekly stay) for one-bedroom suites at all hotels for the same time period - a stay from June 12 to June 19 2005. The suites in our rate survey all are 2-room suites with separate bedrooms and living/dining rooms with fully-equipped kitchens, including (at a minimum) a refrigerator, sink, microwave and stovetop.

Comparing the one-bedroom suite rates with the studio rates, we found significant variation between moderate and luxury brands, with an average difference of $20.52 at Candlewood Suites, and just a $4.48 price difference at Residence Inn. This makes the upscale chains an excellent value in most locations.
